Okay… so 1. The world…. Something that always wanted to do was a world that was a living always evolving like furnace
Floof Purveyor — 15:33
A furnace?
I go *Poof* [RAY],  — 15:34
Hmmmm how to explain. The planet is the ever watchful God of the planet. But he is also is the planet. The world looks like a normal planet able to support life. But deep underground you find the metal veins, and fire and whatever else this entity creates
It has no name. No official name. Mother Furnace, the world Furnace etc.
Floof Purveyor — 15:36
...
So. Uh. Heh.
One of the chief conceits of Wild ARMs games - every one - is that the world is dying. Why? People aren't sure. But the reason for the wild west aesthetic is largely because the world is 50-90% badlands.

The world is dying…. Hmmmmm
Floof Purveyor — 15:37
Curatives are hard to come by, because they're grown. Usually they're berries, and you have a limited supply of them.
So. Combine those two concepts. The world is alive... but it's also dying.
I go *Poof* [RAY],  — 15:38
What if one of the great events is the world starting to cool:… signs of it dying?
Getting cooler…
Floof Purveyor — 15:39
Yes
Other conceits for Wild ARMs games:
Magic is actually uncommon, technology is wild west-era or better, but ancient technology is out there. That's what ARMs are: Ancient Relic Machines.
Every Wild ARMs games has sci-fi elements that involved aliens of some sort. Sometimes the biggest threats come from the stars. Sometimes they're equal threats to what's already there.
... I'm getting an idea.
I'm getting an AWFUL idea. >:3

Floof Purveyor — 15:43
So. Ordinary planet, right?
Meteor.
Slams into the opposite side of the planet and kickstarts a global ice age... and also, because this is a living entity, it cracks the planet like an egg.
However, instead of wiping out civilization utterly, it's a slow death, because the meteor hits on the opposite side of the planet from where the biggest civilizations are.
They know of it as the Great Thunder.
Because that's all most people heard.
Well, the earth also SHOOK LIKE A MOFO
I go *Poof* [RAY],  — 15:47
So it is a great extinction event of sorts? But it is also the reason the world is dying and also it is very cold
Floof Purveyor — 15:47
It is, but like a lot of extinction events, it's a slow death, not a fast one.
I go *Poof* [RAY],  — 15:48
Correct, and life will have a hard time surviving on a world that requires the  entity to be alive
